Description:

The Battery and Critical Mineral Recycling Program, administered by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains, awards grants to increase the reuse and recycling of batteries. There are 4 subgrant programs:

1) Research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects to expand consumer participation in battery recycling programs – $20 million
2) RD&D projects to reduce the cost of recycling consumer electronic batteries – $40 million
3) State and local programs for consumer electronics battery collection, recycling and reprocessing – $50 million
4) Retailer programs for consumer electronics battery collection and transport – $15 million

On June 12, 2023, DOE announced the availability of $125 million in federal funding for the Battery and Critical Mineral Recycling Program. Applications are due November 29, 2023: Source

On February 20, 2024, DOE re-opened the funding opportunity for Retailer Programs for Consumer Electronics Battery
Collection. Applications are due April 9, 2024: Source
