Grid Resilience Utility and Industry Grants

Agency: Department of Energy – Electricity

Description:

Establishes the Grid Resilience Utility and Industry Grants program, administered by the Department of Energy (DOE). This program is designed to support the modernization of the electric grid to enhance its resilience against extreme weather and natural disasters, including wildfires, floods, hurricanes, extreme heat and cold, storms, and other disruptive events. Eligible entities for these grants include electric grid operators, electricity storage operators, electricity generators, transmission and distribution providers, and fuel suppliers. A notable aspect of this program is the requirement for a 100% cost match from the eligible entities, based on their expenditure in the previous three years on similar resilience efforts.

Bill Section:

40101(c)

Potential Cost:

$2,500,000,000

TCS Notes:

The DOE’s Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program includes Section 40101(c) Grants to Eligible Entities on Preventing Outages and Enhancing the Resilience of the Electric Grid (Grid Resilience Grants), Section 40107 Deployment of Technologies to Enhance Grid Flexibility (Smart Grid Grants), and Section 40103(b) Program Upgrading Our Electric Grid and Ensuring Reliability and Resiliency (Grid Innovation Program).
