Description:
Program to fund construction, planning and workforce development in Alaskan communities that are threatened by erosion, flooding and/or permafrost degradation. Eligible projects include actions to reduce the risk of damage to public infrastructure and residential housing from local weather events and climate-related hazards and/or repair or replace of public infrastructure that has been damaged by these hazards.

On April 11, 2022, the Denali Commission announced the availability of a total of $32.7 million – part of which is from IIJA – for FY2022 program grants. Applications are due May 13, 2022: Source

On January 17, 2024, the Denali Commission announced the availability of a total of $15.75 million – $11.75 million of which is from IIJA – for FY2024 program grants. The $1.5 million anticipated to be available for the Village Infrastructure Protection program comes in part from IIJA. Applicants may request awards of up to $500,000. The IIJA appropriated a total of $75 million to the Denali Commission. $3.75 million (5%) will cover administrative costs, including the Inspector General.
