About This Website
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), enacted August 16, 2022, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), November 15, 2021, are two major pieces of legislation that involve more than $1 trillion in spending and tax provisions across the federal budget. The IRA focuses on addressing climate change and reducing healthcare costs, while the IIJA aims to improve the nation’s infrastructure. To help taxpayers track, monitor, and understand spending on programs created or greatly affected by these laws, Taxpayers for Common Sense has created a database that compiles information from publicly available sources. The database includes potential costs, budget authority for authorized programs, and Joint Committee on Taxation scores for tax provisions. It does not track legislative provisions that do not provide funding, are administrative in nature, or provide base-level funding for existing programs – such as the five-year surface transportation reauthorization. The database will be updated quarterly to ensure that taxpayers have access to the most up-to-date information on how their tax dollars are being used.
