Description

The ACERO program, under the Airspace Operations and Safety Program, aims to improve aerial responses to wildfires by coordinating aerial wildfire response efforts. Activities include identifying fire ignition sites and improving weather modeling. Similar work was previously completed under the Scalable Traffic Management for Emergency Response Operations (STEReO) project, FY2020-2022.

In April 2024, Rep. Garcia (R-CA-27) and Rep. McClellan (D-VA-4) introduced a bill (H. R. 8118) to codify and expand the existing Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations (ACERO) program. The bill would authorize $15,000,000 in appropriations for FY2025.
