Appropriations Notes
In FY2021, the Climate and Energy Measurement, Tools, and Testbeds initiative was appropriated $10,382,000 under Standards Coordination and Special Programs and $36,843,000 under Laboratory Programs, according to the FY2022 Budget Justification. In FY2022, the Climate and Energy Measurement, Tools, and Testbeds initiative was only funded through Laboratory Programs, according to the FY2023 Budget Justification.
In FY2022, Congress appropriated “an increase of no less than $2,500,000 above the fiscal year 2021 enacted level” for Climate and Energy Measurement, Tools, and Testbeds, up to $1,000,000 of which was directed to research on “Wildfires and the Wildland-Urban Interface.” In FY2023, Congress appropriated “an increase of no less than $11,500,000 above the fiscal year 2022 enacted level,” up to $1,500,000 of which was directed to research on “Wildfires and the Wildland-Urban Interface.” In FY2024, the “Climate and Energy Measurement, Tools, and Testbed” line item does not appear in the NIST budget request or final appropriations bill. However, Congress appropriated “up to the fiscal year 2023 enacted level for Wildfire and the Wildland-Urban Interface-related research” within the NIST Scientific and Technical Research and Services account.
