Description
The Joint Fire Science Program, established in 1998, is an interagency partnership between USFS and DOI that provides funding for basic and applied wildfire science research programs.Additional Program Notes & TCS Insights
In FY2018, JFSP was only funded through the DOI ($3 million). The FY2019 President’s Budget Request sought to eliminate the program entirely, but Congress continued to provide funding. Examples of projects funded in FY2023 include studying fire behavior, prescribed fires, fuel reduction, and post-fire recovery.Appropriations
